據估計，Rolex在以往所生產的Oysterquartz錶款總數是少於25,000只的。

Ref.17000從cosc收到天文台證書的石英錶款最後只出現在2001年勞力士目錄中，這意味著2001年出現的錶款可能是2000年所有Oysterquartz錶款實際所生產的。之後只有半金和全金系列的錶款，繼續在勞力士目錄中，直到2003年當這些過去所生產的錶款數量銷售完畢，就不在繼續生產。

在1972年Audemars Piguet推出了皇家橡樹Royal Oak，錶款設計由設計大師Gerald Genta，許多人認為這錶款是他最優秀的錶款設計。

當時勞力士推出了Ref,1530 & Ref,1630年Oyster Perpetual的款式，在兩年後1974年即使用相同的設計概念推出了Oysterquartz；但是當時有許多批評者指責Rolex複製皇家橡樹AP Royal Oak的風格。說起來這種批評是不公平的，起碼我認為，大家忽略了許多極早期Rolex Viceroy and Imperial Oyster case designs錶殼的設計，它們顯然是Oysterquartz原型的錶殼。話說回來事實上，也這可以這麼說，Gerald Genta也可能使用這些早期Rolex Viceroy and Imperial Oyster case designs的設計概念，來創造AP Royal Oak。
